In the 2nd part of the master class, we perform a jewelry operation - connecting a prepared corner strip with a V-shaped neckline of the front of a T-shirt. You will learn how to accurately pre-fix the top of the corner using a hand stitch, notch the front seam allowance strictly to the top of the seam without the risk of forming a hole, and sew the binding along the entire neckline using a 4-thread overlocker with a perfect fit to the body.
Contents of part 2 of the video lesson
- 1. Aligning the seam of the corner of the binding with the center of the front front and basting
- 2. Stitching the top of the toe on a sewing machine (tack 3-4 cm)
- 3. Precise cutting of the front seam allowance to the seam stitch
- 4. Sewing binding around the neckline using a 4-thread overlocker
- 5. Decorative stitching of the toe with a double needle or chain stitch
- Tailor's tip: how to avoid creases at the top of an acute corner
- Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
1. Preliminary fixation of the angle
The seam of the corner of the binding is aligned with the marking of the center of the shelf, right side to right side, and is fixed with a 3 cm long stitch on a regular straight-stitch machine.
2. Cutting the allowance
The front allowance is cut strictly in the center of the corner, not reaching 0.5–1.0 mm from the stitching, which allows you to turn the neck cuts into a straight line.
3. Circular stitching
The overlock stitch starts from the right shoulder seam, smoothly goes around the fixed corner of the toe and overlaps by 1.5 cm.
4. Stitching and WTO
The seam is pressed onto the body of the T-shirt and stitched to the edge by 1 mm or the width of the foot with an elastic stitch.
Advice to the master
When sewing a corner on an overlocker, make sure that the lower knife does not cut off the cut seam allowance. And you can download proven patterns for T-shirts of all sizes in our catalog ready-made patterns.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What to do if a small crease has formed at the top of the corner?
Back up 1.5 cm of stitching, check the depth of the seam allowance and repeat stitching with light tension on the edge.
Does the V-neck need to be stitched?
Topstitching is recommended, as it reliably fixes the seam and maintains the ideal geometry of the toe after washing.
