It was another beautiful weekend in New York with the sun shining and the trees just beginning to bloom. And since it was also Easter Sunday, the imagery was in full force. People watching is best on these early spring days when everyone sheds their best clothes after months of hibernation indoors and heads outside in long down jackets. Photographer Hunter Abrams headed to Tompkins Square Park to capture East Village cool kids and Easter egg hunters alike. What did this mean in terms of fashion? Color, faux fur, sequins and... Did we mention color?
One parkgoer decided to pair her fluffy neon leopard print bucket hat (very Lisa Frank!) with a pink cotton candy faux fur coat. Statement chain sunglasses and rainbow sneakers completed the maximalist look. The Most East Village award was given to one person wearing a long jade wig, orange and black striped socks and a blue mask with a red pompom on his nose. Oh, and butterfly clips and butterfly appliques also decorated the wig.
Two outfits stood out for their skillful layering. One lady in red wore a slip skirt, a tailored patterned vest and red cowboy boots. Gossamer stockings and a tangle of rings and necklaces gave this look a special boost. Another person at the skate park was wearing a black and white outfit that was anything but plain. The cute tiered slit skirt and cream blazer with a pleated bodice and cinched waist scream "ladies who lunch." But with chunky sneakers and a harness-like belt? This is New York street style.
