After the glamorous chaos of fashion week and the Met Gala, a tired but still stylish group arrived at the newly opened 10th floor of Saks Fifth Avenue last night. There, Aurora James joined SaksWorks CEO Amy Nelson for a more relaxed evening.
Think of SaksWorks as the ultimate coworking space for creative people. This membership-only club is designed to bring people together, foster collaboration and foster community. But it's not as formal as some others. The walls are decorated with moss, plants act as partitions, and the furniture is, well, more playful. This is not all work either. Participants will enjoy on-site hair and beauty treatments, mid-day stretching courtesy of BDY SQD, and the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing glass of wine at the bar. And if you need therapy in the middle of the workday, the good thing is that the club is located right in the middle of a department store.
"We really thought about how we wanted to work and what the workspace should look like after the crazy year we just had," Gary Esposito, an architect and designer at SaksWorks, told Vogue.
As VIP guests toured the space and eagerly inquired about membership, flutes of champagne and hors d'oeuvres floated between conversations about "What shows did you enjoy last week?" and “Were you at this party? How about this?'" Some tried out the comfy Art Deco chairs, while others admired the warm room on site.
After many photographs, the group headed to the back dining room of L'Avenue in Sachs - one floor below. There, guests dined on tuna tartare while sipping tequila cocktails. Before the main course of salmon and Thai beef curry arrived, each table was presented with an arsenal of beautifully arranged golden fries. It was clear from the speed with which the mountain of fries was destroyed that the guests were not disappointed.
“I love SaksWorks because it's a place where it's easy to get away and just think,” designer Brother Wellis told guests during his talk. “To not only get work done, but also to have a relaxing time alone.”
